Dealing with feeling scattered as a writer Sacha chua
I was talking to another writer who felt S с attered because she wrote about lots of different topics and had many unfinished projects. on the go. O That sounds so familiar that I suspect it's actually normal. and the organized ideal we beat ourselves up about is a myth (or at least a rarity). PLANNING Ideal: Pick one project and stick with it until Completion ORGANIZATION Ideal: Neatly file notes in pre-determined Categories WRITING JLL Ideal: Write from the beginning to the end Challenge: B2 I lose interest or want to switch among topics Challenge: Can't I don't know how to organize until after Adaptations: A keep 2+ projects " D predict I write/research. Challenge: I jump around (?); and work on different parts. Take lots of notes. So that I can pick up where I left off Embrace the diversity adaptations: Learn how to refile things using my Computer Embrace overlapping/ duplicate work Adaptations: ** • Write snippets and then connect them. Use an outline or a map to keep track of the gaps ? ° OF 2013-12-13- 80 Write first, organize later Brainstorm ideas/ questions so I always have things to work on Share small chunks Write along the way (as I learn & explore) instead of waiting until things make sense Embrace rework and revision as part of the learning process some things that Here are work for me in terms of planning, organization, writing.... adapting to who I am instead of who I wish I could be. ☺
